Spanish transcription in MemoFlow

MemoFlow transcribes Spanish with live captions while you record and, on Plus and Pro, a refined transcript with numbered speakers after the session. There is one Spanish option for every regional variety, and Spanish works in both directions of Live Interpretation.

One Spanish option

There is a single Spanish entry in the Speech Recognition Language list — no separate choice for Spain, Mexico, Argentina or elsewhere. Regional vocabulary, place names and people's names are where a Spanish transcript most needs checking against the audio.

Interviews in Spanish

For an interview, the part that matters is who said what. After a Plus or Pro recording ends, the transcript is recognised again and split into numbered speakers where the attribution is confident; turns it cannot attribute stay unlabelled rather than guessed. Rename the speakers, then check every line you intend to quote against the recording.

On Plus and Pro this runs automatically when the recording ends. The audio is kept on the server for 48 hours, which is also the window for running refinement again.

Spanish with English or Portuguese speakers

Spanish is a source and a target in Live Interpretation. A session can follow a Spanish speaker in English or the reverse; Portuguese works the same way, with one Portuguese option for Brazil and Portugal. Each session runs one direction, with the original next to the machine translation.

How Spanish results are scored

MemoFlow's ASR benchmark method scores Spanish by word error rate on the public FLEURS test set, whose Spanish recordings are Latin American. Results from it will not describe every regional variety, and none has been published yet.

Limits to know

  • The language is chosen before recording; there is no automatic language detection.
  • Live captions need a connection. Offline recording continues without them.
  • No accuracy figure is published for any language.
  • Machine translation, not a human interpreter.
  • No regional Spanish variants to choose between.
